Vietnamese question words in content position (question word order)

In Vietnamese, question words like gì ('what'), đâu ('where'), and ai ('who') usually remain in the position of the information they replace. For example, Bạn ăn gì? ('What do you eat?') and Bạn ở đâu? ('Where do you live?'). This is different from English, where question words are often moved to the beginning of the sentence.

• gì ('what') usually comes after the verb it refers to.
• đâu ('where') is often used with verbs like ở ('live') or đi ('go').
• ai ('who') can be at the beginning if it's the subject, but usually follows the verb if it's the object.
